Generals win on road
Generals 2, Titans 1 Staff report Greensboro News & Record December 8, 2001 TRENTON, N.J. - Frederic Henry's glove save on the last skater in an overtime shootout preserved a 2-1 victory as Greensboro defeated league-leading Trenton. Henry anchored a strong defensive effort for Greensboro. He finished with 27 saves, including 15 in the third period. The Generals' defense held Trenton to just eight shots on goal in the first two periods. "It's just our team maturing," Greensboro coach Graeme Townshend. "We're getting better, and that's something we look for every' game. We played real well defensively. We got strong goaltending. We made good plays getting the puck out. It's all the things we've been teaching all year are starting to happen on a consistent basis." The shootout went to the final two skaters. Craig Stahl scored for Greensboro in the fifth round, and Henry made a glove save on Syl Atts' shot. Greensboro took a 1-0 lead 4:03 into the second period. Sal Manganaro's shot from the right circle hit the post and bounced back to David Whitworth, a former Titans player, who poked it home. |
