Generals to play at Joel Annex Saturday
Fri, Nov 2, 2001 JOURNAL STAFF REPORT The Greensboro Generals of the East Coast Hockey League will play the first of 10 scheduled regular-season games at the Joel Coliseum Annex on Saturday night, with faceoff against the Charlotte Checkers set for 7:30. The Generals are 3-3, with a two-game winning streak, heading into tonight's game against the Columbus Cottonmouths in Columbus, Ga. Charlotte will take a 2-5 record into tonight's home game against the South Carolina Stingrays. Saturday's game will mark the return of Generals Coach Graeme Townshend from a three-game suspension. Townshend was suspended after players from his team and the Reading Royals were involved in an altercation during a game on Oct. 20. The teams combined for 241 penalty minutes, with eight game misconducts, and defenseman Shaun Peet of the Generals drew an 18-game suspension for his part in the fight. In Townshend's absence, Rocco Scarfone, the team's co-owner and president, and Rick Francis, the team's executive vice president of sales and marketing, have combined to coach the Generals to two straight victories. Ticket prices range from $9 to $16. |
