Generals to play at Joel Annex Saturday
Fri, Nov 2, 2001

The Greensboro Generals of the East Coast Hockey League will play the first of 10 scheduled regular-season games at the Joel Coliseum Annex on Saturday night, with faceoff against the Charlotte Checkers set for 7:30.

The Generals are 3-3, with a two-game winning streak, heading into tonight's game against the Columbus Cottonmouths in Columbus, Ga. Charlotte will take a 2-5 record into tonight's home game against the South Carolina Stingrays.

Saturday's game will mark the return of Generals Coach Graeme Townshend from a three-game suspension.

Townshend was suspended after players from his team and the Reading Royals were involved in an altercation during a game on Oct. 20. The teams combined for 241 penalty minutes, with eight game misconducts, and defenseman Shaun Peet of the Generals drew an 18-game suspension for his part in the fight.

In Townshend's absence, Rocco Scarfone, the team's co-owner and president, and Rick Francis, the team's executive vice president of sales and marketing, have combined to coach the Generals to two straight victories.

Ticket prices range from $9 to $16.
