Generals lose again;
Serov may return today Express 4, Generals 2 Staff reports Greensboro News & Record – February 17, 2002 ROANOKE, Va. - A series of untimely penalties and bad breaks sent the Greensboro Generals to their second consecutive loss, 4-2 to the Roanoke Express on Saturday night. The Generals were called for six penalties in the first period, including one stretch when Roanoke had a 5-on-3 advantage for over two minutes, and the period ended with the Express ahead 2-0. It could have been worse, as Roanoke had a 21-4 shot advantage in the period. Roanoke took a 3-0 lead on a Rick Kowalski breakaway two minutes into the second period, but Greensboro kept the margin there for the rest of the period. David Whitworth cut it to 3-1 with his 11th goal early in the third period, but Roanoke answered quickly. An Express player attempted to dump the puck off behind the Greensboro net, and it ricocheted off the boards directly in front of the crease where Rod Taylor deflected it into an empty net for a 4-1 lead. The Generals return home today for a 3 p.m. game against Macon. Vlad Serov, who notched one assist for Ukraine in the Olympic games, is likely to return to the Generals lineup for today's game. |
