BRIAN LONEY RETIRES
Press Release - December 26, 2001

Greensboro, NC - It is with great regret that the Greensboro Generals of the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL) announce the retirement of right wing Brian Loney for the balance of the season, effective immediately. The retirement is to spend more time with his family at his home in Ohio.

Loney, 29, leaves the Generals tied for second on the team with 22 points on seven goals and 15 assists. He is coming off a fantastic month of December, in which he notched three goals and eleven assists for a team leading 14 points in 13 games.

"My retirement today is not a hockey decision, it is strictly a family decision," says Loney. "The Greensboro Generals have been a class organization since the day I arrived, and I wish them all the best in the second half of the season. Hopefully, I'll be a General again next year."

Generals' co-owner and president Rocco Scarfone was saddened by Brian's retirement, but he understands his decision. "I hate to see Brian leave us, but I support him one hundred percent. Brian knows the entire Generals organization is there if he needs us, and if he's ready to play next season there's an open roster spot for him. We wish Brian and his family all the best."

The Generals next game, and the first without Loney, is this Friday at 7:30 when they visit the Florida Everblades. The Generals don't play at home again until January 4, 2002, when they host the Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies at 7:30. That game is "Guaranteed Win Night." If the Generals do not win that game (which won't happen), everyone in attendance will receive a free ticket to a future Generals game. The Generals are also at home on Saturday, January 5, when they host their in-state rival Charlotte Checkers.

Tickets for all home games range from $9.00 - $16.00, with two dollar discounts on certain seats for students and seniors. Tickets are available at both the Greensboro Coliseum and LJVM Coliseum Annex Monday - Saturday from 11:00 - 5:00 and through the first period of all game nights. You can also order tickets through TicketMaster by calling (336) 852-1100, or go to the TicketMaster link at www.greensborogenerals.com.
