A LETTER FROM THE GENERALS
Dear Generals Fans, This letter is to openly express the Generals' thoughts about the incident that occurred in their home opener on October 20 against the Reading Royals. As I'm sure many of you are aware, Generals defenseman Shaun Peet was suspended for 18 games as a result of his actions, and Graeme Townshend was handed a three game suspension. For the record, here is our stance on this. In Shaun's case, I think he'll even tell you that he deserved to be suspended. As an organization we feel that a suspension was warranted, but we were surprised at the length of the suspension handed down. In Graeme's case, the reason for his suspension, is a coach must be held responsible for his players' actions, regardless of his involvement. Although Graeme ultimately is a man caught in the middle here, this is not a ruling that is unique. Plenty of coaches have been suspended under similar circumstances. It's just the way it goes sometimes. Despite the severity of these suspensions, the Generals feel it is in their best interests not to pursue any counter-action. Simply put, trying to fight this ruling could ultimately harm the team even further. The smart thing to do is unequivocally support both Shaun and Graeme, take the medicine that has been given to us and come back a stronger team. The Generals greatly appreciate the support or all our fans throughout this matter. We know you'll be there for us all season, as we will be for you.
