Intelligence Report - Issue #20
WEEK ENDING: February 24, 2002 RECORD FOR WEEK: 0-2-1 SEASON RECORD: 18-29-7 NORTHEAST DIV. RANK: 7TH UPCOMING WEEK: The Generals hit the road to start the week, then return home to Winston-Salem for a pair of weekend contests. Greensboro travels to Reading to battle the Royals for a Tuesday evening game at 7:05. From there, it’s off to Atlantic City for the only road game of the season against the Boardwalk Bullies on Wednesday at 7:00. The Generals will play both Friday and Saturday night at 7:30 at the LJVM Coliseum Annex in Winston-Salem. The Charlotte Checkers are the opponents on Friday, while the Richmond Renegades come to town on Saturday. All games can be heard on Radio Disney, WCOG-1320AM. You can also now hear the games online by logging on to www.greensborogenerals.com. LAST WEEK: 2/19 - GREENSBORO 1, CHARLOTTE 7 - The Generals stayed within reach of the Checkers for most of the night, but it fell apart in the third period, as they allowed a season-high five goals. Chris Bell scored the only Generals goal of the night. 2/22 - CHARLOTTE 3, GREENSBORO 2 (SO) - In the debut of Alex Godynyuk as the team’s interim head coach, the Generals put in a solid effort, but it still wasn’t enough to beat the Checkers. Trailing 1-0 in the second period, Chris Bell tied the score by tapping home a centering feed from Chris Brassard. The Generals fell behind 2-1 less than a minute into the third period, but James Desmarais erased the deficit by slapping home a one-timer in the slot to even the score with ten minutes remaining. The Generals were forced to be content with a tie, however, as they lost the shootout 3-1, with newcomer Jeff Bes notching the only shootout goal. 2/23 - COLUMBUS 3, GREENSBORO 1 - This game appeared to be headed toward a high-scoring night for both clubs, but it quickly turned into a defensive struggle. The Cottonmouths took a 1-0 lead just 24 seconds into the contest, but Chris Brassard knotted the score at 1-1 just over two minutes later with his 20th goal of the season. From there, the only player who found the net was the Cottonmouths’ Sean McAslan, who gave them the lead for good midway through the second period, and added an insurance tally with three seconds remaining in the second.
