Hockey on ice
- The East Coast Hockey League pulls the plug on the Greensboro Generals,
meaning the coliseum loses its primary tenant, and that, at least for now, a
long tradition in the city comes to an end. For whatever reasons, community
interest in hockey eroded over the years, but if the sport returns and
ultimately succeeds here, it must do so on the merits of a strong fan base and
solid, private management.
