Letters To The Editor

Coliseum needs hockey team

Regarding the editorial, "The puck stops here" (April 9):

Though this article was factually correct, there are many arguments for the other side not mentioned.

The Generals bring the city notoriety in one of hockey's best leagues in North America. What the writer failed to mention is the revenues that the Generals bring to local restaurants; hotels and other such businesses from local fans and from visiting teams and their fans.

The important thing to note is that, without the Generals, the Greensboro Coliseum will be even more of a money-loser with no ACC Tournament, no arena football, no hockey, no pro/college basketball and fewer concerts coming here year to year.

Believe it or not, even with the Generals losing slight amounts of money, having them as a tenant helps the city by more than the projected $50,000 that they may lose this season. Short term, it is in the city's best interest to keep the team; long term it isn't.

But right now, the coliseum needs the Generals as much as the Generals need the city.
