The Greater Greensboro Observer
June 8, 2004 Area Sports Notes By Brian Surette Generals Ice Down New Season, But Only on Paper That recent slight chill in the air was not a front moving down from the cold, snowy north. It was only the Greensboro Generals releasing its 2004-05 ECHL regular season schedule. The Generals are scheduled to play 35 games at the Greensboro Coliseum, beginning with an Oct. 22 season-opening game against the Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies The regular season runs from Oct. 22-April 9. Seventeen of Greensboro's home games, one-half the total, will be on either a Friday or Saturday. Ten games are scheduled for Thursday and three for Sunday. Though the Generals have a schedule, city officials in Greensboro don't want the team. The fate of the Generals was thrown to the wind last week by the city council, which recommended the team seek private and not public funding for the upcoming season. Additionally, a new contract for coach Rick Adduono, should the Generals become financially solvent and remain the main tenant at the city-owned Greensboro Coliseum, must be ironed out. Cross your fingers and stay tuned. |
